New Google Sites

The new Google Sites allow for a beautiful design with easy click to add, drag and drop elements including Google files (Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, Charts).

The new sites also allow creators to embed maps, YouTube videos, calendars on easy to manage and arranged pages. The themes are elegant to design easily and collaborate to let others edit a site.

Great a good entry point for newer users and those that don’t need fancy options when designing websites.

Ways to use Google Sites:

  • Websites for projects
  • Parent portal
  • Video repository
  • ePortfolios
  • Training site

I love how student-friendly the new Google Sites is to use. I had my students create WWI journals based on their research of a specific country in the war. They had an authentic site created within 1 week and were super excited to “publish” them today. I love how it gives you the option to publish within just our domain. I told them after I have a chance to go through them we will publish them to the world. What a confidence builder that was!

Love, love, love the podcast. Listening and learning in the car and at the gym, and enjoying both of you and your pleasant personalities. Thanks for making a podcast for teachers who are busy, love all things Googly, and learning new things. I can’t wait to listen each week.

Excited that I happened upon your Podcast. Thank you! I have a question, comment, and/or advice needed. My school was recently all set to begin creating digital portfolios for our students using Google Sites. Right before we were going to launch, the New Google Sites came out. We figured since the old Google Sites will eventually be going away we should start with the New version…however we hit a roadblock. Currently, the option of making a “template” does not exist. We need the template option so that we can create a basic template for the eportfolio for students beginning in Kindergarten. The hope is that the portfolio begins in Kinder and follows the student up through 8th grade. I’ve sent Google feedback, asking for this option back. So, any advice on how to work around this? Can you use your googly powers to bring this option back? Know anyone??? Thanks a bunch!
